B30 DEATHS SEEN TOLL FOR HOLIDAY Safety Council Bases Pre- diction on Rates of Past Years. By the Associated Press. | CHICAGO, July 2.—A field day for accidents over the week end doudle | holiday was . foreseen yesterday by‘ National Safety Council statisticlans who predicted 630 accidental deaths | for the period—exclusive of fireworks. R. L. Forney of the council statis- tical staff tabulated the expectable deaths, based on previous accident ratios, as follows: From highway accidents—300, in- eluding the persons who will suffer injuries which later will prove to be fatal. From drownings—200 persons. From falls—130 persons, Forney sald the second double holiday period of the heavy driving period would see probably 20,000,000 | automobiles on the highways. With | July, the year's heaviest month for accidental deaths. Forney said his | calculations indicated more people | would be killed during the two-day celebration of American independence than for any other 48 consecutive hour period of the year. | He said no agency had made a complete survey of deaths caused by fireworks but the most reliable reports for 1935 showed that 30 persons met death in various types of fireworks accidents and that 8,000 were injured.
