B3 Society Miss Eliot Weds To- day in Home of Relatives. ‘The wedding of Miss Frances Torka Fligt, daughter of Prof. and Mrs. Bamuel A. Eliot, jr., of Northampton, and Mr. Lincoln O'Brien of Beverly, son of the chairman of the Tariff Commission and Mrs. O'Brien, now of Washington, will take place this after- noon at 3 o'clock in the home of the bride’s grandparents, Dr. and Mrs. Bamuel A. Eliot, in Cambridge. The ceremony will be performed by the bride’s grandfather, Dr. Eliot, rector emeritus of the Arlington Street Church, Boston. Miss Yvonne Robert of .Northampton will be the bride’s only attendant and Mr. Philip Nocho- las, jr., will act as best man for the bridegroom. Mr. O'Brien and his bride will leave later for & wedding irip to the West Indies. Upon their return they will make their home in Athol, Mass., where the latter is now publisher of the Athol News. Spettswood-Burnham Nuptials in Church. A wedding of more than usual in- terest took place this morning, when Miss Mildred Moger Burnham be- game the bride of Mr. A. deMouy Spottswood, son of Mr. W. C. Spotts- wood and the late Mrs. Spottswood of Mobile, Ala. The day is the twenty- eighth anniversary of the marriage of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Dwight N. Burnham. The ceremony was per- formed in the Washington Heights Presbyterian Church, the pastor, the Rev. Dr. John C. Palmer, officiating &t 11:30 o’clock before an altar banked with evergreens and quantities of white chrysanthemums and snap- dragons and lighted with tall white tapers. Mrs. J. Harry Cunningham, organist of the church, played the wedding music and a short program @s the guests assembled. The bride was escorted and given in fnarriage by her father. She wore her traveling costume, a suit of bright green woolen, made with knee-length coat, tightly fitted and trimmed with baby lynx fur. Her hat and accessories were in a darker shade of green and she wore a shoulder bouquet of orchids. Miss Leah Clagett Ford, daughter of Mrs. M. B. Ford, was maid of honor and wore a tunic dress of dark green heavy crepe, heavily braided and her hat and accessories were in the same shade. Her shoulder bouquet was of yellow orchids. Mr. John Shields Spottswood of | ‘Washington, formerly of Mobile, was best man for his brother, and the ushers were Mr. John Watson Voll- mer of Washington, uncle of the bride, and Mr. Walter Knox of Norfolk, Va., and Panama City, Fla. A reception and wedding breakfast followed in the grill room of the Shoreham, the 40 guests being only members of the two families and inti- mate friends. The bride’s table was decorated with yellow roses and del- phinium. Mrs. Burnham, mother of the bride, who received the guests with the bride and bridegroom, wore a gown of black velvet, the skirt street length, end about the neckline a narrow band of color. Her hat and accessories were black and she wore white orchids on her shoulder. Later in the day Mr. and Mrs. Bpottswood will leave for a wedding trip, going by motor to New York for several days, and will sail on the Clyde-Mallory Line for Jacksonville, Fla. They will motor through Florida, Georgia and Northern Alabama, and will make a series of visits, arriving in Mobile the second week in De- cember. They will be at home at 120 Houston street in Mobile. Mrs. Spottswood is a graduate of Bidwell's Friends School and in 1932 graduated from George Washington University a bachelor of arts in for- eign service. She is a member of the Pi Beta Phi Fraternity and was prom- inent in dramatics, fraternity affairs and student government during her years at G. W. U. Mrs, Spottswood has been with the Tennessee Valley Authority since June, 1933, first in the Washington office and since March, 1934, in Knoxville, from which she re- signed October 15. Mr. Spottswood attended the University Military School at Mobile and was graduated from the University of Alabama in 1921 with degree of B. S. in civil engineering. He is a member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity, the Mobile Country Club, the Bit and Spur Riding Club of Mobile. He has been prominent in civic affairs in Mobile, and served as assistant general manager of the Mobile Chamber of Commerce for six years. Mr. Spottswood spent six years with the United States Army Engineer Corps on the Mississippi River and six years with the United States Engineers in Florida.
