‘HENPECKED AN CONTEST TONIGHT Food Show Audience to Se- lect Winner—Baby Com- petition Also Set. A contest to pick the District’s/ most “hen-pecked” man will be held this evening at the District Grocery Btores’ Food Show in the Calvert Ex- hibit Hall, opposite the Shoreham Hotel, The winner of the doubtful honor N will be chosen by the audience on the basis of his appearance as he parades across the contest platform clad in & nightshirt and carrying a candle and a cat. Young, old and middle-aged are eligible to compete for the $5 cash prize. The only requirement is that the contestants be able to stand the “kidding” of the crowd. Applause of the spectators will designate the most “hen-pecked” individual. An electric washing machine and food prizes will be given away. Free food will be distributed to all at 8 and 9 o'clock. The first matinee of the show, which opened Saturday evening, was to be- | gin this afternoon at 2 pm. A baby contest, oben to infants between the ages of 1 and four years, will be the feature of the afternoon. Promptly THE EVENING STAR, WASHINGTON, D. C., MONDAY, NOVEMBER 18, 1935 at 4 pm. the competition will begin, with some 50 babies expected to vie for the applause of the crowd. The one who takes the fancy of the audience will receive a $2.50 cash prize. In addition, a Santa Claus will pre- sent a gift to every child under 6 years old. A combination electric mixer will be given away to some grown person at the conclusion of the baby contest. . Several winners of baby contests last year are expected to take part in the competition today, or on succeeding afternoons. Inquiries concerning the contests have been frequent, indicat- ing an unusual turnout of proud par- ents and their infants. Distribution of food takes place every afternoon at 2:30 and 3:30. An automobile will be given away Saturday evening at the closing of the show.
