UPTURN FORECAST - INSTEEL OUTPUT Institute Places Operations for Week at 53.7 Per Cent Mark. By the Associated Press. NEW YORK, November 18.—The American Iron and Steel Institute to- : day estimated steel production during the current week at 53.7 per cent of capacity, compared with 52.6 per cent of capacity in the preceding week. A month ago production was at the rate of 51.8 per cent of capacity and a year ago it was 27.6 per cent. The estimated operating rate for the current week is the highest since the week of June 18, 1934. With today’s schedule the steel in- dustry is rounding out six consecutive weeks of operations at better than 50 per cent of capacity, which stands as a record for some time. In late January and early February there were three straight weeks of better than 50 per cent, and the ratio of 528 per cent for the week ended February 4 was high for the year until topped by today’s estimate.
