NEW YORK, October 26.—The bond market was a soméwhat mixed affair during the short session today. With few exceptions, however, the gains and losses carried values only slightly distant from the closing levels of Fri- day. So far as the general corporate list was concerned the week's progress to- ward a plane of higher prices was well maintained. Fractionally higher prices were paid for American & Foreign Power 5s, St. | Paul 5s, Columbia Gas & Electric 5s, Detroit Edison 4ls, Great Northern 415, New York Central 5s, Southern Pacific 4158, Southern Railway 4s and ‘Western Union 5s. Cl By the Associated Press. CHICAGO, October 26.—Influenced by lower quotations at Liverpool and Buenos Aires, the Chicago wheat mar- ket underwent a price decline early today. Rains in Nebraska, Kansas and Oklahoma were also a bearish factor. Opening g to 1 cent down, Decem- ber, 99%a7s, Chicago wheat values then rallied somewhat. Corn started unchanged to % off, December, 607sa 61, and afterward advanced. Pronounced weakness that developed in Chicago wheat prices later was associated with an unsteady close in Buenos Aires today and with a break at Winnipeg to under the Canadian government guarantee to farmers. It was reported Argentine shippers were selling futures because of improved crop prospects for wheat in Argentina. Canadian shippers re- ago Grain ported that only small business was | in progress. Corn, oats and provisions sympa- thized with action of wheat. Wheat futures purchases yesterday totaled 19,488,000 bushels, corn, 3,609,- 000.
