NEW YORK, October 8—Francis Wilson, 81, noted actor and first pres- ident of Actors’ Equity Association, died yesterday following a heart at- tack. He had been convalescing after an emergency operation four weeks ago. A native of Philadelphia, Wilson went on the stage when he was 21 in a minstrel troupe and then went on to become one of the foremost comedians of the American theater, notably in the role of Cadeaux, in “Erminie.” He aided in the foundation of Actors’ Equity and served as its pres- ident for seven years. After 1919 he returned to the stage only infre- quently and principally in revivals of famed plays. He was the author of several books about men in the theater. Mr. Wilson was married twice, first to Mira Barrie, who died in 1915, and then to Edna Bruns, who had been his leading lady in one of his own lays. He had four children.
