Private building in Washington dur- ing the past week dropped far beiow the record total of the previous week, it is shown by permits issued by the office of Building Inspector John W. Ochmann for §313,934 in new bufldlng and modernization work. The weekly total, however, renchedi approximately the average for the year, and of the large permits issued almost all were for new residential | construction. The week’s list included permits for erection of 38 one-family dwelling and six multi-family flats. Largest. permit of the week was is- sued to Brown Bros. Corp., 2736 Cori- land place, and called for construction of eight dwellings in the 5100 block of Third street at a cost of about $40,000. George T. Santmyers was named architect. Harris Shapero, 1477 Girard street, was granted a permit to build a group ! of six homes in the 4600 block of | Fourth street, to cost $30,000. other large permit went to the Fendall Construction Co., 930 New York ave- nue, for construction of four brick flats in the 1600 block of B street southeast, to cost $30,000.
