Meeting for the first time this Fall, the West End Citizens’ Association voted unanimously last night to sign pledges in The Star’s safe driving cam- gn. Incidents were cited by members where trafic was tied up because of the single operator's in- ability to keep his car on schedule while making change during rush periods. Thider Addresses Session. John Ihider, executive officer of the Alley Dwelling Authority, concluded the meeting with a talk on the prob- lems of slum reclamation as affecting the West End area. TWO HOLES IN ONE., LAYING in the President’s’ Cup match at the Belle Haven Country Club near Alexan- dria Sunday, Joe Trundle, patent attorney of Washington, made two “holes-in-one” on an erratic shot from a sand trap near the fifth green, accredit it or not. Instead of blasting the ball from the trap, Trundle topped it out in the wrong direction. It sailed straight for an automobile being driven slowly along the Fort Hunt road which di- vides the club's course. Noticing its direction, Trundle prayed for a miracle. ‘The miracle happened. The fact that both front windows of the car, a sedan, were down had given the golfer two holes to hope for. He made both. The pellet salled straight through one side win- dow, past the noses of the two people sitting on the front seat of the ma- chine, and right out the opposite win- dow! * ok % ok SPHINX ORIGIN. CLEAR AS A ACID THROWING LAID TO REJECTED SUITOR| By the Associated Press, CLEVELAND, September 17.—De- tectives arrested Joe Studney, 21, yes- terday and charged him with hurling acid which marred the facial features of a 24-year-old mother, endangering her sight. Detectives said Studney told them: “I wanted to disfigure her so that no one else would want her. Then I could marry her, no matter what she looked like.” The woman, Mrs. Helen Bonewicz, was taken to a hospital, where physi- clans attempted to save her sight. Mrs. Bonewicz told the officers she informed Studney a week ago she did not want to see him again. Studney, who met Mrs. Bonewicz a block from her home today, produced an ice pick, witnesses told police, and threatened to take his life. Mrs. Bonewicz wrested the pick from him and ran. Studney chased her for three blocks before throwing the acid. WILL YOU LET US EXPLAIN WHY Are Bullt to Operate at Low Cost Ralph J. Moore Coal Co. Phone Potomac 0970 MOUNTAIN LAKE!
