B s Doyenne of Corps Will Return to Washington This Month Japanese and Mexican Ambassadors Hosts at Informal Functions—Chief Justice in New York. who is in New York, after ADY LINDSAY, wife of His Bri- tannic Majesty’s Ambassador, spending the Summer at Bar Harbor, Me., will return to the em- | bassy at the end of the month. The Japanese Ambassador, Mr. Hirosi Saito, was host at luncheon yesterday at the embassy to Count Kabayama, member of the Japanese House of Peers, who is making a sec- | ond brief visit in Washington. Count Kabayama is staying at the Carlton Hotel. ‘The Ambassador of Mexico and Senora de Castillo Najero entertained at a reception at the embassy iast night in celebration of the independ- ence of Mexico. The guests were mem- bers of the Mexican colony in Wasn- ington and wore national costumes. During the evening national sonugs were sung. The Ambassador was the guest of honor at a luncheon given yesterday by the members of the Mexican Em- bassy staff to celebrate the Independ- ence day of Mexico. Among the guests was the chief of the division of translations of the Pan-American Union, Dr. Jose Tercero. Chief Justice and Mrs. Charles Evans Hughes have left Bretton Woods, N. H., for New York, where they will spend a few days before coming to ‘Washingtor. Representative Edward A. Kelly of Chicago is in town for a few days and is stopping at the Wardman Park Hotel. The Undersecretary of State, Mr. William Phillips, who returned yester- day from his Summer home at Bev- erly Farms, Mass., will be joined early in October by Mrs. Phillips and their daughter, Miss Beatrice Phillips, who | will remain at Beverly until the end of this month. Miss Phillips will spend the Winter in Washington. Admiral Standley Host for Daughter. The chief of naval operations and Mrs. William H. Standley will enter- tain at a small dinner party this eve- ning following the rehearsal for the wedding of their daughter, Miss Marie Standley, and Lieut. Edwin W.
