England has been feeling the de- pression in the decrease of members | of the clergy. Although the popula- | | tion has increased greatly in the last | decade, the number of clergymen has | fallen off by a few thousands. About 500 newly ordained men are needed every year to maintain the number | of the 15,000 needed, but the average number of new men turning to the church as & profession has been only | & very few hundred. The average age of the clergy is 58 years and it is felt that only men who have grown up with the modern times can hope to understand and interest the younger generation in the church.
