REAL ESTATE COUNTY TAX SALE INCLUDES BIG LIST 3,000 to 4,000 Plots Advertised NGTON, D. C., SATURDAY, AUGUST 10, 1935. HOUSE OF COPPER SHOWN TO PUBLIC ===~ == ferent styles of architecture, Structure, First of Its Kind in U.S., Has Steel Frame. ‘The copper house, erected at Edge- moor lane and Exeter road in Edge- moor, Md,, by the Kennecott Copper Corp. as an exhibit, was opened to public inspection today. Although copper houses have been built in Germany- and other European countries, the Edgemoor house is said to be the first of its kind in this country. It is of the English farm house type. ‘While copper has been used for roofs, gutters and water pipes for many years, this is the first time it has been the principal material of the house, itself. The framework of the exhibit house is of structural stel, but the outside walls consist of heavy copper plates backed by a half inch thickness of composition board, which lends additional stability to the sheets and minimizes any metallic noise when the plates are struck. Its builders claim that the insulation of the walls is so efficient that they are equivalent to eight feet of mnd| masonry, although only about six inches in thickness. The inside walls are plastered on metal lath and '.he‘ space between is filled with spun glass. | All the plumbing pipes are of non- | rustable copper tubing, and the plumb- | ing fixtures are chromium plated brass (o resist tarnish. The house is also provided with & complete air condi- tioning system, which will keep it supplied with warm moist air in the Winter, and dry cool air during the hot Summer months. This air condi- tioning system has been installed in all the principal rooms of the house, | and rooms such as bath rooms and kitchens, closets and maid’s room have been provided with concealed ::zp:r-"l:dllmn that are hidden in [ F. Rock Creek Terrace, a new develop- ment overlooking Rock Creek Park at Upton street and Linnean avenue, has been selected as the site for the second and third of the series of five “New American” homes to be built in Washington under the national campaign sponsored by the General Electric Co., it was announced today by Waverly Taylor, Inc, builders of the exhibit houses in the Capital. While the design of the houses has not yet been worked out, Mr. Taylor revealed they will incorporate the outstanding features *of the prize- winning plans of the Nation-wide contest, fostered by the General Elec- tric Co., in which more than 9,000 | architects competed.
