FINANCIAL SECONDARY BONDS TURN DOWNWARD Prime Corporate.§ Remain Steady-—Federal Issues Are Irregular. By the Associated Press. NEW YORK, July 25—Secondary bonds moved into a downward trend in the late trading today. Prime issues closed steady and United States Governments finished unchanged to 3-32ds of a point lower. Pressure on the speculative classi- fications erased a number of gains established during the forenoon deal- ings. Rail issues were targets for much of the selling. Heaviness in German obligations and a fair recovery in Italian issues ‘were among the features of the foreign list. MISSOURI PACIFIC PLAN IS REPORTED By the Associated Press. NEW YORK, July 25.—A plan to reorganize the Missouri Pacific Rail- road and remove 12,000 miles of line from a two-year period of bankruptey has been developed by O. P. Van Sweringen, it was reported here last night. The interests which disclosed the Van Sweringen move are withholding | publicity of the plan until he reveals it. but indicated that frozen invest- ments of some $300,000,000 made by savings banks, insurance companies and other investors in the largest unit ,of the $2,000,000.000 railroad empire would be released. Advertising Lafls Behind Year Ago, Index Discloses By the Associated Press. NEW YORK, July 25.—Advertising for the month of June registered a decrease of 2.3 per cent over the same period a year ago. it is shown by the general index of advertising compiled by Printers’ Ink and released today. This marks the first time that any month of 1935 has suffered a loss as compared with the month of 1934, The index figure for June stands at 78.2. a decrease of 3.7 per cent as compared with the preceding month June normally shows a decrease as compared with May. BITUMINOUS OUTPUT CLIMBS DURING WEEK | The National Coal Association, from incomplete carloading reports from the railroads, estimates bituminous coal production in the United States for the week ended July 20 as ap- proximately 5.600,000 net tons. Pro- duction for the corresponding week: 1934, 5.753,000 tons; 1933, tons. Sloan, jr., president of Guneral Motors Corp., announced today that net earn- ings applicable to the common stock for the quarter ended June 30 were equivalent to $1.17 a share. This com- pares with earnings of 83 cents & i share in the June quarter last year. The quarter’s earnings on a per share basis were the largest for any June quarter since 1931. For the six months ended June 30 net applicable to the common stock amounted to $1.85 a share, against $1.51 a share for the first half of 1934. Net income in the second quarter, after preferred dividends, was $49,924,- 912, against $37,972535 for the second quarter of 1934. In the March quar- ter this year net amounted to $31,- 554,000, equal to 68 cents a common share. For the first half net income, after preferred dividends, was $79,140,728, against $64,997,503 for the like period | last year. | As of June 30 corporation’s holdings of cash, U. S.
