SINGLAIR T0 PUSH HIS EPIG PROGRAM Denies He Is to Quit Politics. Hopes to Extend Plan to All States. By the Associated Press. SANTA BARBARA, Calif, April 19.—Emphatically denying dispatches (not carried by the Associuteg Press) quoting him as saying he was leaving politics, Upton Sinclair announced here last night he hoped to extend his “End Poverty in California” pro- gram to the other 47 States of the Union. Sinclair, regarded in some quarters as a potential factor in the 1936 po- litical situation, said he had been “grossly misquoted” in a report pic- turing him as singing his political swan song from a hospital cot here. “I have never been on a hospital cot in Santa Barbara,” said the writer and former Socialist. “I am working hard on the na- tional EPIC book, expecting to guide | the California EPIC as previously, | and hope to establish similar move- ments in 47 other States.” | Sinclair reiterated the statement he | made in Los Angeles April 4 that he | expected to go on a national speech- | making tour this Fall, advocating | production-for-use as a remedy for | unemployment. i Earlier, Mrs. Sinclair said that, al- | though her husband “will never be & | candidate for political office again,” | far from being through with s She was one of the fore- most advisers in his unsuccessful race for Governor on the Democratic ticket last Fall. ARLINGTON STREET APPRAISAL STANDS County Committee to Recommend Figure Already Set for Hamilton Extenison. By a Staff Correspondent of The Star. ARLINGTON COURT HOUSE, Va., | April 19.—The committee appointed by the County Board to appraise the property sought for the proposed" Hamilton street extension will not set a price above that previously set by County Manager Roy S. Braden. This was learned yesterday from au- | thoritative sources. The committee | was appointed after the board con- demned the property when Luther Walter, owner, refused to sell at the county manager's price. H Braden recommended that the pur- | chase price be computed on a basis of $1,500 an acre, while Walter sought slightly in excess of $4,000 an acre. ‘The committee, it was learned, will | report the former figure to be a rea- sonable price. | The proposal contemplates -exten- | slon of Hamilton street from its pres- | ent dead end at the radio towers to | ngham road, at the Patrick Henry hool. The property required amounts to | approximately one-half acre. | Expert Driver Takes Test. | UNIONTOWN, Pa. (/). —Charles W. | Johnson can drive & car—he'’s proved it.
