The Senate voted for & non-com- petitive test for these men in the Alcohol Tax Unit, because such an examination would give proper recog- nition to their past experience. The group who will have to pass a new examination in order to remain after May 15 are former prohibition agents, whose clvil service status has been challenged by Senator McKellar, Democrat, of Tennessee. The men were reinstated in the Alcohol Tax | Unit of the Treasury after the Pro- hibition Bureau had been abolished. The amendment of last year, which cut off the pay of these employes in December, was intended to apply only to about 700 of these former pro- hibition agents, but was held to have affected other groups who had been proposed new examination must be taken by those members of the orig- | inal 700 who did not pass an exam- ination held last November. ——— Zanesville Defeats Levy.
