LEADER N CHURCH WORK DIES AT Mrs. L. Jennie Kellogg, Ta- koma Park, Long Seventh Day Adventist. Mrs. L. Jennie Kellogg, 91, a life- long leader in the Seventh Day Ad- ventist Church, died this morning at the home of her daughter, Mrs. C. C. Lewis, 200 Flower avenue, Takoma Park, Md. Mrs. Kellogg had been a resident of Washington and nearby Maryland since 1917. Mrs. Kellogg was born in Erie County, N. Y., a daughter of the late Hazeal Manning Ayars and Cor- nelia Stanbrough Ayars. Her father and mother were pioneers in the establishing of the Seventh Day Ad- ventist faith in this country. Upon marrying Alonzo F. Kellogg Mrs. Kellogg moved to Michigan, where she and her husband continued their church activity. Mr. Kellogg died in 1900, Mrs. Kellogg came here in 1917 and at once became active in the Seventh Day Adventist Church in ‘Takoma Park. At various times she has been clerk, teacher and librarian of that church. She also was a mem- ber of the W. C T U, but about two years ago was forced to give up most of her church and organization work. Three months ago she fell in her home and suffered a fracture of the right leg. She never recovered from this injury. | Mrs Kellogg is survived by her daughter, Mrs Lewis, an adopted | son. Charles Kellogg of Oregon, and | a brother, Arnold John Ayars of Kalamazoo, Mich. RICHMOND, April 18.—Alex G.| Lucas. who got his first job in the Midlothian Mine at the age of 9 years | and rose to the position of chief mine | inspector for the State Department of Labor and Industry, died at his home here late yesterday. He was 79. | He had held the place of chief inspector for 20 years and was said to be very successful in securing ob- servance of mine labor laws. Funeral services will be held at the | home of a daughter at 3:30 p.m.| today. Burial will be in Hollywood Cemetery. Five daughters survive. Man Assaulted and R;Jbbed.
