LEGION BANQUET HONORS WILMER Welcome Back to Capital Is Tendered Founder of Hospital. QGen. William Holland Wilmer, Pprominent ophthalmologist and one of the founders of the Episcopal Eye, Ear and Throat Hospital, was welcomed back to the Capital—scene of his early triumphs as an eye specialist—at a banquet tendered him by members of Augustus P. Gardner Post, No: 18, American Legion, last night at the | Raleigh Hotel. For the past nine years the phy- sician taught ophthalmology and di- | rected the Wilmer Ophthalmological | Institute at Johns Hopkins University. ! ?el retired as head of the institute last uly. Benjamin S. Minor, local attorney, who has known Gen. Wilmer for 50 | years, lauded the physician for his contributions to science and traced his career from the time he first thought | of becoming a doctor. The general de- ? cided to study medicine, Minor said, whep as a boy of 15, he restored a dog to health by removing a tumor from | its back. | After graduating from the Univer- | sity of Virginia and later studying in Europe, he came to Washington to | practice. He helped found the Episco- pal Hospital in the 90s and is now a | consultant for that institution. He | taught as professor of opthalmology . at Georgetown University for about 19 years before going to Baltimore. Other speakers at the banquet in- cluded Rev. Coleman Nevils, president of Georgetown University; Dr. Wil- liam Gerry Morgan, dean of the Georgetown Medical School: Dr. Earl B. McKinley, dean of George Wash- ington Medical School, and Maj. Gen. Robert U. Patterson, surgeon general of the Army, who also acted as toast- master. : PRIEST TO DESCRIBE ALASKAN MOUNTAINS Father Hubbard Will Address' Members of National Geographic | Society Tonight. “Mountains that seem cathedrals in the air” is Father Bernard R.
