Chicago Grain By the Associated Press. CHICAGO, December 5—Wheat prices shot up almost 5 cents today in the broadest general trade wit- nessed in recent weeks, with all de- liveries of corn and some options of oats and rye selling at new high levels of the season. May wheat contracts sold at $1.05 Just before the closing bell, a gain of 45 cents during the day, within 3 cents of the limit permitted by trad- ing rules. Stop loss buying orders were brought into execution by the general advance. Trade gossip centered on the possi- bility of “favorable” developments at ‘Washington, although there was no intimation as to what action was ex- pected. A sharp advance at Liverpool also was partly responsible for the improvement in sentiment here. Corn strength was derived from growing apprehension as to the short- age of feed, with cash corn selling at the highest point since July, 1929, a load of No. 2 white bringing $1.09%. ‘Wheat closed flurried, 23,-3%, abme yesterday's finish: May, 1.0375-1.04.
