Simmons, U. 8. A, retired, died yesterday Walter Reed Hospital. He was 62 years old, and had not been active in the Army since 1922, when he was retired for disability in line of duty. Since that time he had made his residence in Washington. His home here was at 2400 Sixteenth street. Gen. Simmons was born in Fairfleld, N. C., and graduated from West Point in 1895. He served in the Cuban and Philippine campaigns, and was awarded the Silver Star citation for gallantry in action during the engagement with Spanish forces at Santiago, Cuba, on July 1, 1898. During the World War he was attached to the general staff in Washington and also commanded the 19th Division at Camp Dodge, Iowa. He graduated from the General Stafl School in 1920, the Army War College in 1921 and received the LL.B. degree from George Washington University in 1928. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Estella Simmons, one son, Benjamin T. Sim- mons, jr., a student at George Wash- wright, both of Fairfield, N. C.
