Swift-moving legislative action by the States and reports of heavy consump- tion: over the country have given the administration renewed hope that Fed- eral beer revenues for the .year wm‘ outstrip the $125.000,000 estimate of | Ogden L. Since then State Legislatures have acted so promptly that his figures have | been radically changed and the revenue ccunters are looking for a much larger consumption. with resultant benefits to Uncle Sem's coffers States Named by Mills. April 18 ().—The 75 State beer tax act of 1906 was held invalid by the Bell Circuit Court yes- terday in an opinion by Judge W. L. Hammond ! The decision reverses the judgment of County Judge George Vanbeber, who | Saturday upheld the right of the State | to levy a $75 tax on retailers of 3.2 per _cent beer. The State announced the decision would be taken to the Court of Appeals. ! Judge Hammond agreed with the con- | tention of the defense that the State, prohibition act of 1922 repealed the | 1906 measure which set the tax, i Animal Relief Meeting. ‘The annual meeting of the Animal Relief and Humane Education League | will be held at the league's headquar- ters, 322 E street northeast, tonight at 8 p.m. for election of officers and other business.
