While making an altitude test at the Anacostia Naval Alr Station last week, Litch, Huge in Making Variation officer, encountered a change of temper- aturs. totaling 83 degrees during the colrse of an hour's climb, it was shown in a report to the Navy Department yesterday. Ground temperature was 50 degrees when Lieut. Litch took off and after climbing an hour the thermometer on his plane recorded approximately 33 degrees below zero. This is regarded as an exceptionally great change of tem- perature for an hour’s climb.
