ROOSEVELT returned to the White House this morning after spending several days in New York, and shortly after her arrival held her weekly conference with newspaper women. The First Lady will entertain at tea in- formally at the White House this aft- ernoon. Mrs. James Roosevelt, mother of the President, was among those in the audience at the first of a series of three concerts arranged by the Little Sym- phony Orchestra in New York yester- aay. The concert was given in the main ball room of the Plaza Hotel, where the other two, April 25 and May 16, will be given. Mrs. Francis B. Thurber, jr., chairman of the com- mittee in charge of the concerts, is as- sisted by Mrs. Adolf Ladenburg, Mrs. Townsend Phillips and Mrs, Moses Taylor. Mrs. Curtis B. Dall is chairman of patronesses for the happy days supper dance, which will be given at Sherry’s, in New York, Friday evening, April 21, for the benefit of the scholarship fund for the floating university. Mrs. Dall will preside at a meeting of her com- mittee this afternoon at Sherry’s and has assisting_her Mrs. Everett Dean Martin, Mrs. Leslie Jay Tompkins, Mrs. Caspar Whitney, Mrs. Harold E. Tal- bott, jr, and Mrs. Frank A. Vanderlip. Cabinet Women Lunch Following Lenten Lecture of Dr. Sizoo. Mrs. Willlam H. Woodin, wife of the Secretary of the Treasury, was the luncheon guest yesterday of Mrs. Daniel C. Roper, wife of the Secretary of Commerce, at the Mayflower, follow- ing the morning Lenten lecture given by Dr, Joseph Sizoo in the hotel. The Secretary of War and Mrs, George H. Dern and Col. Frank Webb were among those who entertained at luncheon yesterday at the Willard. ‘The retiring Minister of Hungary, Count Laszlo Szechenyi, will sail to- morrow night aboard the Bremen to return to his Hungarian home pre- paratory to going to his new post as Hungarian Minister to the Court of St. James. Countess Szechenyl and their daughters will epend a portion of the Summer with her mother, Mrs. Cornelius Vanderbilt, at the Breakers, the latter’s home at Newport, before Joining the Minister in London. The Minister and Countess Szechenyl went to New York Monday and are guests of Mrs. Vanderbilt in her home at 1 East Sixty-seventh street. Yester- day a farewell reception was given in honor of the Minister and Countess Szechenyl by 62 Hungarians from various cities in this country ' who attended the party and signed a - monial of their esteem and affection for the retiring diplomat and his Countess Szechenyi is expected to re- turn to Washington the latter part of the week. The Minister of the Irish Free State, Mr. Michael MacWhite, entertained at dinner last evening in honor of Mr. Joseph Connolly, minister of lands and fisheries of the Irish Free State, who is visiting in Washington. Among the guests were the Secretary of Agriculture Mr. Henry C. Wallace, and the chair- man of the Federal Farm Board, Mr. Henry Morgenthau, jr. President Roos2- velt received Mr. Connolly yesterday in the White House. ‘The South African Minister and Mrs. Louw leave for New York City today, and will be absent for several days. To- morrow the Minister will entertain at luncheon at the Ambassador Hotel in honor of Dr. P. R. Botha, the retiring commercial secretary of the legation. Mr. Justice and Mrs. Harlan Fiske Stone will entertain a company at din- | ner this evening in their home on Wyo- ming avenue. ! Representative and Mrs. Fred A. Brit- ten will leave Washington today for a fortnight's stay in the South. A program of music fol- lowed the dinner and the garden was lighted with gayly colored lights. Senator Johnson Guest of Dr. Hogan at Army-Navy Club. Dr. Jemes J. Hogan entertained at dinner last night at the Army and Navy Club in honor of Dr. Dean Lewis, pro- fessor of surgery at Johns Hopkins University and president of the Amer- ican Medical Association.
