STEEL PRODUCTION SHOWS SLIGHT GAIN Sales. High. Low. Close-|Iron Age Says Mills of Nation Are Operating at 15 Per Cent of Capacity. By the Associated Press. NEW YORK, March 29.—Steel pro- duction has risen to 15 per cent of ca- pacity this week from 14 per cent last week, said Iron Age today, but the change is due to special circumstances rather than to any broad improvement in business. 3 “For example,” the review said, “the ‘Wheeling district is operating at 30 per cent, a rise of 5 points, but this is mainly because of tinplate specifica- tions; while at Cleveland a slight gain results from the desire of one company to build up a stock of ingots.” “The failure of steel business to re- cover the ground lost as a result of the bank crisis may be attributed in large part to the fact that in many sec- tions of the country financial condi- tions are still unfavorable for business enterprise. However, many industrial plants that were wholly or partially shut down during the past two or three weeks are resuming operations and a gradual straightening out of the recent entanglements is now more confidently looked for. “Rallroad buying definitely waits upon the consummation of the admin- mnuon': plan for railroad reorganiza- n.” RAILWAY EARNINGS.
