ELLIS CO. 7, Municipal Fish Market END OF OATH SEEN SOONBY DEVALERAY llirish President Ready for Free State to Resume Talks With United Kingdom. By the Assocated Press. DUBLIN, Irish Free State, Ferbuary 2.—President Eamon de Valera said in an interview last night that “the oath of allegiance (to the crown) will dis- appear from the constitution within the next three months.” He went on to say that the Irish Free State is ready to resume negotia- tions with the United Kingdom, under certain conditions, with a view to end- ing economic differences. Await British Lead. “The British Ministers are aware ot our desire for a just settlement of the financial dispute. We are ready to re- sume discussions when they are pre- pared to negotiate seriously,” he said. “I am not in a position to say if the British sufficiently appreciate the significance of the election results, and realize the hope hitherto held of a' sur- render on the part of the Irish Free State is vain. Consequently I cannot estimate the probability of the reopen- ing of the negotiations. ‘WORK GUARANTEED QUALITY SHOE REPAIR Opposite Evening Sta- 415 11th St. NW. Ireland being made a prominent issue in Anglo-Irish negotiations depends on the scope of the negotiations. * * There can never be a final seulement or true peace between Ireland and Britaln while the Eritish government keeps Ireland divided. Republic Not an Issue. “The republic was not an issue in the election. But the poll's result has un- doubtedly brought it nearer to realiza- tion. We would leave the determination of the future status of the country to the people’s vote.” The measure abolishing the oath has been passed by the Dail, but rejected by the Senate. If passed again by the Dail it will become law drrespective of the Senate.
