LEONARDTOWN, Md., January 7.— | Judge and Mrs. William Meverell Loker | announced the engagement of their oldest daughter, Frances Manning, to Mr. George P. Wigginton, son of Mr: Margaret B. Wigginton and the late George P. Wigginton, of New Kalamazoo, Mich., ‘The announcement was made at a party at Belvidere plantation Wednes- day evening, Judge and Mrs. and Mrs. Wigginton being hosts. Miss Loker’s ancestors came to Mary- land in the Ark and Dove in 1634, and Mr. Wigginton is a relative of Brig. Gen. Mordecai Gist of Revolutionary War fame. A novel and colorful feature of the evening was the playing of the strains | of the wedding march, when Miss Mar- garet Wigginton and her brother, Mr. Robert Wigginton, and Mr. Alexander Loker, who pulled the ribbons on the suspended from the bal- cony above the dance floor, tilting it tiny cornucopia. and showering the guests with hearts bearing the announcement. Dancing followed, after which a late supper was served the 60 guests, includ- ing many from Washington, New York, Baltimore and Southern Maryland. Mr. and Mrs. J. Brooke Bryant gave 8 dance Thursday at Potomac View, their estate at Piney Point, for their son and daughter, Mr. J. Brooke Bry- ant, jr, and Miss Sarah Gwynn Bryant, and Miss Thelma Frazer of Ten Hills, Md. Mr. and Mrs. H. A. Miesell of Indian- apolis, Ind., are spending this woek with Mrs. Miesell's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Philip T. Graves, at Laurel Grove. Mr. and Mrs. Miesell will make their | home in Baltimore, where Mr. Miesell has been transferred. ‘The Holy Angels Roman Catholic Church at Abell was the scene Monday morning of one of the first weddings of the new year, when Miss Mary Eliza- beth Owens, daughter of Mr. B. I Owens, of Abell, became the bride of Mr. James Woodley Mattingly, son of Mr. and Mrs, Eugene Mattingly, of Leonardtown. The rector of the church, the Rev. F. Robb, S. J., offici- ated at 10 o'clock and said the nuptial | | mass. The church was decorated in Christmas greens, with lighted candles on the altar. Mr. Jesse Norris of Leon- ardtown sang preceding the ceremony. Miss Mary Alice Woodburn of Bush- wood, Md., was the maid of honor and the best man was Mr. Robb Cecil of Great Mills. Following the ceremony a reception was held in the home of the bridegroom’s parents, after which the young couple left for Miami, Fla. ‘The Bushwood Fox Hunting Club held two hunty Priday morning, with a large number of riders taking part. Mr. Edmund J. Plowden, jr., of Bushwood, was master of the hounds. The first hunt was held at Swanns Point, and ran to Issue and lasted just 45 min- utes, and Miss Dorothy Swann of New- port got the brush. The second hunt started at 9 o'clock on the shores of the Wicomico River and ended at noon &t Mount Victoria, Miss Margaret Coe getting the bru: ‘The field was en- tertained at breakfast in the home of Mr. Thomas Stone, Rose Hill, at Morgantown. The club has 31 inport- ed English thoroughbred fox hounds and will have a series of hunts next week.
