By the Associated Press. RIGA, Latvia, April 1.—European di- vorce seekers no longer need envy Americans their Reno divorce court. Prominent persons llke Max Rein- hardt, well known stage producer, and Eugene D'Albert, Anglo-German com- poser and pianist, who died here prior to the annulment of his sixth mar- riage, have revealed to Europe that the Latvian civil code permits a quick and easy untying of matrimonial knots. Riga, 25 a result, seems destined to become the European El Dorado for persons disappointed in married life. Court Costs Are Low. “Get your divorce in Riga” is an ad- vertisement appearing in all languages in the Latvian newspapers. A Latvian deputy sarcastically remarked that Riga might be converted into “Divorce and Marriage, Ltd.” Married men and women of all na- tionalities, disgruntied over family troubles, crowd Riga’s divorce court. Within two months their matrimonial burdens are lifted. The cost for the court proceedings is legally fixed at $1.60, really a bargain rate compared with the costs of most other divorce centers. The Latvian civil code considers s separation of three years adequate rea- son for divorce. Must Reside Two Months. Divorce seekers, before filing suit, must become residents of Latvia, a process which takes two months, but they need not change their nationality. The Latvian law presupposes mutual approval of the parties in granting a divorce. It is provided, however, it two months after the suit both of the parties must appear before the president of the court so that he can formally attempt to arrange a reconcilation. If this fails, the marriage is declared void. In the case of Max Reinhardt, the German authorities did net recognize ning: sublect to @ perpet over's 3-foot alley in the rear for use in common by the owners of premises Nos. 1303, 1304, 1306, 1308, 1310 and 1312 Ninth street northwest.
