Thlt !lue!dh !llwnen:e do(hhtflch The greedy always overreac) —OLD MOTHER NATURE. - Chatterer the Red Squirrel had not made a sound since he reached the big maple trees around the little sugar house in which Farmer Brown and Farmer Brown's Boy would soon be boiling down sap from the maple trees into sirup and sugar. He hadn't made a sound because he didn't want it known that he was anywhere about. So he remained hidden and watched Farmer Brown and Farmer Brown'’s Boy tap the trees and hang the pails to catch the sap. Jolly, round, bright Mr. Sun climbed higher in the blue, blue sky and the sap would soon be running. Already it was beginning to drip in some of the pails first set. As the day grew warmer it would drip faster. Just as he expected, Chatterer had plenty of opportunity to enter that lit- tle house, and just as he hoped there were many things to be examined by his prying little eyes and tested by his sharp little teeth. In such a hurry to to work on the trees had been rmer Brown's Boy that he had not stopped to stow things away where in- go tive noses could not get at them. Chatterer had plenty of chance to sample things. Chnttmr was kept busy for a long time. It wasn't until he heard the wamning sound of approaching foot- steps that he left that little house and then he did it in a hurry. He didn't leave by way of the open coor. Going that way he would be scen and he didn’t want to be seen. It wasn't that he had any guilty feeling of wrong doing. He didn't have. It was because he knew that if he wasn’t seen Farmer Brown, for it was he who was coming, might not know who had been meddling with things. So he whisked through a knothole in a board just under the edge of the roof and by the time Farmer mmdilwvend Inx;:hchlef he h-g been in was scam; away througl the treetops. . . Every cell, sinew, and tissue infolds, although it does not always express, the mani- Zold mysteries of life. This is the law of recapitulation, and it should be regarded as an influence, rather than as & demonstrable fact. As an influence, it finds expression in the psycho-physical make-up of each indi- vidual in two ways. First, it stabilizes the individual in his development, thus promoting the utilization of established useful mecha- nisms. Sudden changes are disconcert- ing, sometimes fatal. He spread his hind legs as a squirrel can and with his feet gripped the edge of the pail Then slowly and carefully he let himself down head first until at last with his hands spread wide on either side to brace him his nose touched the sap. Then Chatterer for- got everything else. He lapped up that sap as fast as his tongue could go. He lapped up a great deal more than he needed or really wanted. That was be- cause he was greedy. Greedy people are just like that. Almost always they take more than they need and more than they really want just because they can. So Chatterer lapped and lapped lnd (org ot everything else. He even at he was where he had no buflnm to be. And all the time he was fixing to get into trouble, and gresd was the cause of it. (Copyright, 1932 Handwriting ‘What It Mav Reveal.
