A—12 »» LEADERS OUTLINE SAFETY WEEK PLAN Campaign to Be Held Here During Session of Na- tional Council. Plans for a Washington Safety week, to be held here in conjunction with the National Safety Council Convention Oc- tober 3 to 7, 1932, were discussed at a meeting of the local council representa- tives today. | Two national officers of the organiza- tion—Julian Harvey of New York and W. H. Cameron, managing director of | the council—outlined to the 19 Wash- ington delegates methods whereby the safety drives have been conducted in other cities during past conventions, Five Thousand Will Attend. Approximately 5.000 persons are ex- pected to attend the convention here, which will include exhibitions and dem- onstrations of safety methods. The sessions are to be held at the Wardman | Park and Shoreham Hotels and will be open to the public Three plans were offered for the | management of Safety week here. The first entails adoption of a slogan to be printed on menus, circulars and pro- grams; arrangements for speakers to address luncheon clubs and civic or- ganizations, safety sermons from the | pulpits of the city, radio talks on safety and police exhibitions of safe driving etc. By extending the first scheme, which involves no expenditures, a larger plan may be laid out. This would include a parade, erection of an accident clock for the American Automobile Association to use as in- dicator of the number of accidents occuring in the city and display of banners from street cars, taxies and in other public places. Third Plan Offered. A third plan would link Washmgmn‘ and the Bicentennial with the program, through the use of posters, stickers and other advertising media. ~Safety arm bands would be distributed to the police, firemen, elevator operators and others entrusted with the public safety. Prize essay contests also would be con- ducted in the schools under this plan. Representatives of local concerns who attended the conference this morning were: J. L.
