NEBRASKANS SEE HOOVER VICTORY, Coolidge Plea Regarded as Omen, Though Norris May Rule State Delegates. Bpecial Dispatch to The Btar. OMAHA, Nebr., November 7.—The announced support of President Hoover by Calvin Coolidge insures Mr. Hoover of renomination, in the opinion of Ne- braska Republicans, but it will hardly give him the Nebraska delegation in the Republican National convention. Mr. Hcover probably will carry the State in the elsction. | His chanees of winning the Nebraska delegation in the convention rests upon his making friends with United States Senator Gleorge W. Norris, and no one who knows Senator Norris expects him to do that. On the other hand, United States Senator R. B. Howell, the other Nebraska Senator, who is as definitely 'm Progressive as Senator Norris, will support Mr. Hoover and expects his Fe-election, Norris to Control Delegation. Senator Norris will control the dele- gation, His hold on Nebraskans is just | s strong—if not even a little stronger— @s it has ever been. But, while Ne-| braska Republicans, as well as a lot of | Nebraska' Democrats, will follow Senator | Norris in the primaries, they will not | follow him in the election itself. This | was shown conciusively in 1928, when | Norris “stumped” the State for Gov. | Smith, the Democratic nominee, and | Mr. Hoover carried Nebraska by a tre- ! mendous_majority. Mr. Coolidge’s favor of President Hoover and his plea ‘:or party loyalty and regularity are Iready having effect in Nebraska. Representative H. M. Baldridge of maha, who has been rather inde- Pendent in his ideas, say ‘I certainly agree with Mr. Coolidge that our Government would be much {better if we would stick together and ‘back our respective parties. Former Representative A. W. Jeflris of Omaba sees the Coolidge article ialready bearing fruit among Nebraska sRepublicans. He says: “It woke Ne- braska Republicans u}: and caused some to see how far from the party they really had drifted.- I am sure I can already see & drift to Mr. Hoover | 85 a result.” | ‘Woman Observes Trend. Mrs. M. D. Cameron, Republican na- tional committeewoman for the State, has also seen that drift to Mr. Hoover, she says. Harry Palmer, Omaha attorney, who two years ago received 50,000 votes for Governor in the Republican primary, although he made no campaign except to state in an interview that he backed the Republican party and its principles, sees Nebraska in Republican ranks as a result of the effect the Coolidge plea for regularity will have. “Nebraska always is a Republican State whenever Nebraska Republicans do not fight too much against each other,” says Palmer. “Mr. Coolidge's plea is causing both wings to be a little more charitabl WI'&l'd each other. It's & good effect, too.” State Senator James A. Rodmap, a Republican wheelhorse, is still some- what dubious of the Progressives. But if the Republican Progressives expect to put up a_ candidate for the residency, Senator Howell has seen no dication of that intention. . “I see no evidence of such a move- ment,” says Howell. “I believe Mr. {Hoover will be renominated and Te- jelected, of course, unless a strong Re- guhnun candidate is put up against im to draw votes from him.” +PROPOSED CHANGE ‘ APPROVED BY HINES Veterans’ Head, However, Says De- tails of Decentralization Must Be Worked Out. pronouncement in Further decentralization of certain activities of the central office of the ‘veterans’ administration to field offices has been approved Gen. Frank T. Hines, administrator of veterans' affairs, who explained, however, that such decentralization would have to be worked out slowly, , carefully and “in keeping with the con- ; dition of work.” § Gen. Hines said the plan had been f discussed at the recent conference of j regional managers of the veterans’ ad- ministration here. The activities which may be decentralized include the ad- | Judication of claims for benefits due dependents or other beneficiaries upon ! the death of the veteran. How the program would affect the personnel here in Washington was not exactly clear, but it was explained that, for the present at least, there will be no dismissals, nor transfers of personnel o the field. There was some indication that it might be possible to effect the entire program without the dismissal of any one, as some of the central office work here might be abic to absorb personnel taken off of the l;ork decentralized from here to the eld. “in principle” by CONVICT ASKS TRIAL . Man on Parols for Killing 22 Years| %’ Ago Held as Robber. | John Phillip_Trilling, 58, on parole from Leavenworth Penitentiary for the i killing of his wife's grandmother 22 years ago, yesterday asked for a jury trial after pleading not guilty to four Police Court charges that he took ap- proximetely $65 in cash and some Jewelry from the rooms of girl students in the Holton Arms School three weeks | ago. Trilling, identified by Mary Lock- wood, a chaperon at the school, as the man whom she saw run down the steps of one of the institution's buildings on the night of the robbery, was held un- der $1.200 bond by Judge Isaac R. Hitt. | He will face a jury November 11, Soviet Builds Culture Palace.
