Giving left-turning motorists right of way over other vehicles which have not entered the intersection was criticized last night by H. M. Phillips at the ! meeting of the Sixteenth Street Heights | Citizens’ Assoclation, in Northminster \church, Alaska avenue and Kalmia froad. He contended this method of turning sometimes results in a long line of cars waiting while a single machine negoti- ates a left turn. Joseph H. Wilson was unanimously | re-elected for a third term as president of the association. Dr. William H. Eng- land was elected vice president, Miss Preda Dorothy Egbert, secretary; Sam- uel B. Loveless, financial secretary, and H. M. Phillips, treasurer. Mr. and Mrs. H. M. Phillips were reappointed cele- gates to the Federation of Citizens' As- soclaticns, and P. E. Schmidt, O. E. Sweet and William E. Vaughan were | selected for the Executive Committee. Capt. Harry J. Davies spoke before | the group on the Red Cross roll call, | which will begin next month. | A committes consisting of D. B.| Sober. jr.; Samuel B. Loveless and Al- | | Pert .H. Smith was appointed to ar- | range for participaticn by the associa- tion In the Halloween celebration sponsored by . the Greater National Capital Committee of the Washington Board. of Trace and the Federation of Citizens’ Assoclations. Reports of com- mittees were submitied and civic im- provements cbtained last yvear were cited. Announcement was made that the Alexander R. Shepherd School was 69 per cent completed and would be finished by November 15. This was the assoclation’s first meet- ing of the year. 'CHANGE IN TAXI ZONE SOUGHT BY CITIZENS | Burleith Group Seeks Extension of Western Boundary About | Four Blocks. A plea to the Public Utilities Commis- | sion that the city proper boundary of | the zone cabs be extended a few blocks | westward was voiced last night at n! meeting of the Burleith Citizens' Asso- | ciation, meeting in the Gordon Junior | High School. The western extension of the bound- ary about four blocks would result in increased business for cabs, the asso- ciation members aver, since three | schools would then be in the city| proper fare zone. The three schools | which would be brought in the first zone by such a change are Georgetown University, Western High School and | Gordon Junior High School. Wisconsin | avenue is the present western boundary. | The assoclation also urged that Thirty-ninth street to Western High School Stadium be paved. It will tend || to relieve congestion on what is now a | traffic menace, say the citizens. Dirt |banks on each side of the street are continually washed down on the side- || walk by heavy rains, they also said. The association unanimously voted | to take part in the Halloween festival that is being sponsored by the Cham- ber ot Commerce, Board of Trade and Federation of Citizens’ Associations. A committee is to be appointed. A nominating committee was select- ed to offer names of candidates for the election of officers, to be held at the next meeting. Mr. C. E. Efbrey was named chairman with Col. L. C. Lucas and Mrs, H. 8. Maffey also on the committee. Following election of officers at the next meeting the asso- clation plans an extensive campaign for new members. SERMONS WILL HONOR ST.
