B—14 THE EVENING § TAR, WASHINGTON, CAROL GONFERS WITH PILSUDSK] Strive to Keep United Front Between Poland and Ru- mania Against Soviet. BY JOHN GUNTHER. By Cable to The Star. | VIENNA, Austria, October 14.—Two souls with a single thought, King Carol of Rumania and Marshal Josef Pilsudski of Poland, met for the first time in King Carol's palace at Sinaia yesterday. ‘Their single thought, as far as for- eign policy is concerned, is to keep & united front between Poland and Ru- mania against the Soviet Union. King Carol and Pilsudski, romantic conspira- tors both, each of whom spent years in exile before returning to the countries they now head, have much in common. | First Trip in Five Years. This is the first time Marshal Pilsud- | #ki has left Poland on a diplomatic mis- sion since his famous trip to Geneva | five years ago, when he tried to settle | the Lithuanian problem by “sitting on Waldemaras"—Augustinas Waldemaras, then Lithuanian premier. | Military influence was dominant at| today'’s meetings. Both dictators, in | uniform, were attended by high staff officers. Their countries are bound to- gether by the prevailing agrarian crisis in Eastern Europe. but what interests | them more is the Russian problem. France by mania. Any Franco-Russian arrangement, how- ever, mania would leave King Carol and Marshal Pilsudski sitting on the end of a very long limb of a very long tree. They both rely on France as their chief diplomatic support against Russia, with which their relations are either non- existent, or very bad. ' Want Frontier Guaranty. Thus King Carol and Marshal Pil- sudski want inclusion in the projected Franco-Soviet pact, with a guaranty of their frontiers. Russia refuses this out of friendship with Germany. Marshal Pilsudski’ for his Rumanian visit is for his health. He wants to visit the Black Sea resorts. (Copyright, 1931.) Nye, of the Senate Campaign Funds Committee. A similar demurrer was upheld by Federal Judge T. C. Munger several months ago, but Seymour was reindicted. The only vital difference between the two demurrers is the new allegation that George W. Norris, a grocer, was never a candidate in the primary elec- tion last year for United States Senator. It was concerning the attempted entry | of the grocer as an opponent of Senator | George W. Norris of McCook that Sey- | mour testified. | The demurrer questions the consti- | tuticnal authority of the United States morning, when he jumped from a train in an attempt to escape while sbeing transferred from Shreveport, La., to the reformatory at Chillicothe, Ohio.
