HIA'H!TONE“- 1‘1l D- THE EVENING STAR, WASHINGTON, TESTS T0 DECIDE GAS HEAT PLANNED Eauipment to Be Installed in' Schoeols to Try Out Long- Line Effects. The Public Utilities Commission will launch tests in two outlying public’ schools before September 14 to de- termine whether manufactured illumi- | nating gas loses its heating value by transportation for long distances through gas mains. This was revealed at the Franklin School Administration Build- ing today when authority was given the | commission’s engineers to up_their equipment in the Takoma and Dean- wood schools. ‘The tests, Earl V. Fisher, executive | secretary of the commission, advised the | board, will run for a period of a week. e Commission will furnish the equip- | ment, which will consist principally of a | tank to hold about 30 gallons of water and cpparatus that can be lccommo- dated on an ordinary table. The gas supply will be that provlded \ordinary outlets for cooking stoves. ‘ | Explaining the tests as they have been | | outlined to him, Harry O. Hine, sehool\ board cecrstary, declared that public | school buildings situated as far as pos- | sible from gas manufacturing plants were desired by the commission. The commission, he said, wanted to use the Takoma School and either the Kenil- | worth or the Burrville Schools. Neither | of the latter, however, he said, have gas | { connections. ‘ FIRST NUMBER OF WEEKLY PERIODICAL IS ISSUED nnd Economie L4 Political Events Covered in American Observer, Launched Today.
