Manager Only Against Pohick-Annandale Project Until Richmond Highway Widened. By a Staft Correspondent of The Star. ALEXANDRIA, Va, July 11.—An- swering the storm of criticism that has come from portions of Fairfax County to his announced opposition to the State improving the highway from Po- hick to Annandale and on to Washing- ton, Dan 8. Hollenga, business manager of the local Chamber of Commerce, states that there has been a “colossal misunderstanding” of his position in the matter. His statement, Mr. Hollenga ex- plained, was not meant to convey an opposition by the local chamber to the road being improved out of Fairfax County funds, but was directed against the State's spending any money to im- prove this road when the main highway from this city south to Fredericksburg was so badly in need of widening and improving. Residents of sections of Fairfax County along Route No. 1, the main highway south, are also opposed to the State's spending money on a side or lateral road where the main highway needs the expenditure of considerable money, Mr. Hollenga said. Should the State Highway Commis- sion agree to improve Route No. 1, tak- ing out many of the dangerous turns, he would have no opposition to the expenditure of money on the Pohick- Annandale road, Mr. Hollenga said.
