HOOVER AIRPORT - T0BE SURVEYED Wathington Field One of 23 Chosen for Study of Plane Traffic. ‘Washington-Hoover Airport is one of 33 leading airports chosen by the Com- maerce Department for a thorough study of alr trafic flow with a view to in- creasing . the traffic capacity of air-| ports by making the operations more efficlent and safer, it was nnnounced‘ yesterday. | ‘The study is to be made by a spe- clal committee appointed by the de-| partment, which is organizing a local subcommittee to conduct the study here. The work of the subcommittee at ! ‘Washington-Hoover Airport will include | » study of airplane’ movements to and from the airport to determine exist- ing traffic conditions and periods of greatest density in traffic; estimates of the volume and meximum density off - traffic likely to pass through the airport | during the next three to five years; a study of the landing area layout from ! the standpcint of traffic flow and the | suitability of servicing and terminal | arrangements; a time-study of traffic operations to determine points of delay and a study of the signal systems in ! use. i Groups Represented. ‘The committee sponsoring the studies here and at the other 22 airports is composed of representatives of the Commerce - Department aeronautics branch, the National Advisory Com- mittee 'for Aeronautics, the Army Air Corps, the Navy Bureau of Aeronautics, the Bureau of Standards, the American Engineering Council and the Aero- nautical Chamber of Commerce. It is headed by H. H. Blee, director of aero- nautic development of the Commerce Department. ‘The committee, through studies made by its subcommuttees, Mr. Blee said, is expected to assist indi- vidual airports in smoothing out tratfic flow and improving safety conditions, assemble data on actual vraffic and provide experience that will permit an approach to the gcal of uniformity in traffic control throughout the country. An unidentified donor some time ago set aside funds for the monument, and Chevalier Anthony Belo, sculptor, of Astoria, L. I, was commissioned to make the statue. June 30.—Trapped on a railroad trestle by a train, a man dropped his son and two other small boys 50 feet to the waters of the Nor- manskill Creek just before he was crushed under the train near here Sun- day. The boys drowned. The dead are Thomas Burgess, 45; his son, Willlam, 7, and Russell Solo- mon, 8, and a nine-year-old brother of Russell Solomon.
