CHINESE REFUGEES | JOIN NEW REVOLT Chiang Kai-Shek Faced With Insarrection on Wide Front. BY CHARLES STEPHENSON SMITH, Chief of Porelsn 'fi;:{‘,‘ of the Assoclated Chiang Kal-Shek and his Nationalist assoclates at Nanking are facing insur- rection, which is scattered all the 2,000 miles from Dairen, in the southern tip of Manchuria, to Canton, in China’s most southern province of Kwantung. Chinese political refugees are return- ing to Canton and other points where they may assist in the movement against Nanking without exposing themselves to the bayonets of Chiang's soldiers. Eugene Chen, Tang Shao-Yi and a | thost of other internationally known men are at Canton directing the insurrec- tionary opganization, which thry" call | “the new Nationalist government. Charge Usurpation. Their movement is directed against alleged abuse of power by Chiang Kai- Shek and his many relatives and ad- wvisers, who are charged with attempting | to usurp authority which should be vested in the Chinese public. Already there have been moves by the new Canton government to take over | the customs and the salt revenues. This | 1s the favorite way of raising money for | insurrections in China. The fate of the Nanking government yests very largely on the attitude.of! Chang Hseuh-Liang, the. governor of Manchuria.
