"A-12 IN ARMS DISPUTES Silence Will Be Maintained on Effort to Postpone Geneva Parley. By the Associated Pr The American Government was said on high authority last night to b> planning to maintain a_strict neutra ity in any efforts in Europe to bring about a postponement of the geners disarmament conference scheduled to meet in Geneva in February. Intimations have reached Washing- ton thai an effort might be made to de- the conference beyond the sched- uled date on the ground there was not sufficient time for adequate prepars: “tions. On the other hand, Germany is re- ported in official circles here to be prepared o oppos vigorously any eflo to postpone a world meetifig io tak up the disarmament question. Preparation Is Thorough. The attitude of officials here is that every effort should be made to enter the “conference with as much equip- ment possible to deal with a sub- amified as the consideration of ,"sea and air forces of the world Suggestions that the United States would enter the conference prepared to offer _concrete proposals have received no_echo of approval in official circles The present attitude appeared last night to be that the United States is remcte from the problem of land and al t armament probl st the London parley. Three Proble It was said the three principal prob- lems for the conference are those of the Franco-Italian naval question, left unsettled the London Conference and subscquent direct negotiations the Franco-German military involving a divergence in interpreta. tion of the Versailles treaty's military clauses, and the question of Soviet Russia and its relations with the rest ©f Europe. There has been no attempt on the part of American officials to hide their disappointment over the recent col- lapse of the Pranco-Ttalian negotiation: g;ndz as they seemed to have been set- ed. What part the Kellogg treaty for the renunciation of war will play in the efforts to encourage a reduction of land forces was a subject of speculation to- night, but there appeared to be no in- clination among officials to accept sug- gestions that the question of “putting teeth” in that pact be revived, Oppose General Pact. It was made clear by several well in- | formed officials that the United States | does not now look any more favorabl; on a general consultative pact, in which America would participate, than it did | at the London Naval Conference. Wood, Federal labor conciliator, yesterday said he had asked United States Attorney Frederick H. Wood said that if an affirmative reply was received, he would proceed against Hurley in Federal and State Courts in districts | = where the statements were published. Hurley charged on the floor of the Senate ‘that Wood was incompetent, that he was a trouble-maker between ; capital and labor and that he had | engaged in stock promotion of co-oper- | ative industrial ventures based on the | employe ownership plan. | One firm, Hurley said, was organized | by Wood and $200,000 invested in it by employes was lost by them within two | years. An order filed with the Senate ! by Hurley and supported by Senator Michael J. Ward of Boston asked for an investigation into Wood's activities by the State Department of Labor and Industries. : “It is a matter of record,” Wood said, | = “that I have dealt with more labor disputes than any, other man in public | office.
