Secretary Hyde's announcement that no part of the $45,000,000 drought relief fund will be used for food loans resulted yesterday in demands for additional reliet legislation. Senator Caraway, Democrat, Arkansas, announced he would introduce a bill after Christmas recess to increase the fund to $60,000,000, as originally pro- posed in the Senate bill, and to make the additional $15,000,000 available for loans. Hyde said yesterday the supplemental estimate for $45,000,000 had been sub- mitted to the House Appropriations Committee and Agriculture Department experts were prepared to testify tomor- row. He added he expected immediate action on the request. ‘The Secretary said he still believed the $25,000,000 recommended by the ad- ministration would suffice. He pointed out, however, that the provision for relief for storm areas which was added to the act would require funds above the $25,000,000 originally recommended. I. M. DESIRE IS FULFILLED in Time for Christmas. eat Christmas dinner aboard his flag- ship, after being on official duty in the National Capital for most of this month, although it was & close connection to get from Washington to San Pedro, Calif,, in time for Yuletide turkey.
