Over efficiency last night was declared Association in McKinley High School. during a discussion on postal service, as regards collections and" deliveries. that the Post Office was primarily interested in economy. rather than in service. “With the Government advocating all possible relief for the unemployment situation I cannot understand why the Post Office Department should follow such a policy. We have had numerous complaints from the association mem~ bers that the service standard has de- clined. Efficiency, linked with economy, is responsible, in a great measure, for the present unemployment_crisis.” Representing the Post Office, Capt. Harry Klotz said that the force had been increased to expedite the postal service, that ‘there had been no lay- offs and that none were contemplated. He further added that the recent cut- ting of collections was due to the fact that railroad time schedules had been advanced. “An increase in bus transportation has forced @ revision of train schedules and eatlier collections are necessary in order that the mails will leave on these trains. Mail volume has also increased,” he_said. The assoclation went on record as favoring a change and the matter was referred to the Postal Relations Com- mittee, Revision of routes of the Rhode Island avenue busses between the hours of 8 and 9 in the morning and 3 and 4 in the afternoon, to run past McKinley proval and referred to the Public Utili- ties Committee. A nominating committee was named to select prospective association officers for 1931, to be voted on at the next meeting.
