Been Pastor in Six States and registrations of alleged residents of Washington who own_Summer homes along the Chesapeake Bay and is trib- utaries on the West Shore scored & vic- tory in the Circuit Court here yesterday afternoon, when a demurrer filed by at- torneys for the Democrats to the ap- peal from the ruling of the registrars was overruled by the court, with a full bench present. A total of 325 individual suits have been filed against as many of the resort residents, and it was indicated by Isaac Lobe Straus, counsel for the Democratic State Central Committee of Maryland, that despite the ruling on the case at bar, that of Ralph D. Keadle, who is sald to be a resident of Washh . and who registered at North Beach Park, each of the several hundred cases would be tried separately. Following the over- ruling of the Democrats’ demurrer, the case went immediately to trial, with J. ‘W. Higgins, registration officer at Mc- Kendree, on the stand. Under the law in Maryland now, it was said, all prospective voters have to do is to file the affidavits of two citizens that they are residents of the State, and in the county and district in which vote. Keadle's affidavits were llgn , according to the record, by J. Bruce Lyons and Jchn W. Self. The case was being_heard by Chief Judge Francis Neale Parke of Carroll County, Judge Robert Moss of Anne Arundel County and Judge Willlam H. Forsyth, jr. of Howard County. In addition to Mr. Straus, for the Democrats included George C. Woelfel of Annapolis and Charles W. Mulligan of Pasadena. The Republicans were represented by Wendell D. Allen of Baltimore, Ernest’ F. Faden of Balti- more and Noah A. Hillman of Ane napolis. LONDON THEATERGOERS GRIPPED BY FARCES “It's a Boy,” “A Night Like This,” “Almost a Honeymoon” Among Newly Popular Plays. SECRETARIAL AND ISINESS le’ Walls-Ralph Lynn confection at the Aldwych, continues to uphold that theater’s reputation for first-class farce; ‘Almost a Honeymoon” continues to do excellent business at the Garrick, and “Leave It to Smith” the new Wode- houselan Hay venture at the Shaftes- bury is now firmly established. Strangely enough, Pagnol’s “Topazee,” such a success in so many other coune tries, has failed to impress London. It is given here in the adaptation of Benn Levy, which was in New York, and with a cast that includes Raymond Massey, Frank Celller and Delysia, but it seems to have lost sparkle in transition, and its satire has lost point. Perhaps the cast as a whole is too English for the right interpreta tion of such a piece. (Copyright. 1930, by North American News- paper Alliance.) LONDON (N.AN.A).—When the King and Queen return to London from Sandringham soon her majesty ine tends giving one of her informal after- noon parties to the dominion premiers and their wives, now in England for the Imperial Conference. ‘These functions, which take place in the state drawing rooms and the pic- ture gallery at Buckingham Palace, give the guests a splendid opportunity to see one of the finest private collec~ tlons of pictures in the country. There are in all 1,600 pictures at the palace, 300 of which are hung in the picture gallery. This is a long room decorated in gray-green brocade, with three rows of lights from the ceiling. ‘The pictures are mostly portraits and include many Italian old masters, some of which were collected by Charles I, who bhought the Duke of Mantu's col= Jection. This monarch was a real con= oisseur. He was a patron of Rubens and installed Van Dyck at Blackfriars as a royal painter with a salary of $1,000 & year.
