By the Associuted Press. ‘To the lowly dust beneath the feet the United States Public Health Serv- ice has turned its scientific attention. Results of four dust studies, conduct- ed by Dr. L. R. Thompson, chief of the scientific research staff, have just gone to press and will eml‘(u in bulletin form within the next few weeks. They concern municipal dust, or dust of the city streets; hard and soft coal dust; cotton dust, and silver polishing dust—all considered as possible hazards to health. A safe limit of somewhere between 9 and 20 million particles of dust ser cubic foot was established. Ventila- tion was said to be the only method of keeping air thinned out sufficiently to be_safe for breathing. Highest concentrations of dust were (e\md in coal mining, both hard and soft.
