x A-—15 GRAIN MARKET ; CHICAGO, September 17 (#).—High- est prices in the wheat market today D. C., WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 17, 1930. NEW YORK COTTON NEW YORK, September 17 (Special). | —For the third consecutive day price | FINANCIAL. URB ISSUES SHOW THE EVENING STAR, WASHINGTON, STOCK AND BOND AVERAGES By the Associated Press. From Yesterday's 5:30 Edition. Received by Private Wire Di " STRONCER TREND Buying Remains Selective With Trading Volume at Low Point. BY JOHN A. CRONE. Bbecial Dispatch to The Star. | NEW YORK, September 17.—Trading | on the Curb Exchange today was dull and buying remained selective, but the general tone of the list was firmer than 1t has been in several sessions. | The usual market leader, Electric Bond & Share, was up more than a half point at _times and its subsidiary, American & Forelgn Power, was about 8 point higher. _Cities Service remained slightly below Tuesday’s levels. Pennsylvania Water & Power around | midday rose about 2 points,. while| Northern States Power A fell 2 points and Brazilian Light & Traction lost much of iis early gain. A handful of utilities, some natural | gas stocks, low-priced oils and a dozen | miscellaneous industrials, among them food and store issues, were prominent in_the forencon session. Virtually all of the lower-priced pe- troleum securities declined. Standard Oil of Kentucky had the distinction of recording the first low level for the year in that group. In sharp contrast to the general trend was the strength of Im- perial Oil of Canada, which in recent months has shown sales_increases. Missouri-Kansas Pipe Line, which is | negotiating several deals, inciuding one | with Columbia Gas & Electric, was the feature of the natural gas shares as it rallied 3 points. Although Dixie Gas Utilities and Lone Star Gas was a trifle easier, United Gas Corporation, new, the most active of the division, and Duquesne Gas were somewhat firmer. Alleghany Gas did not immediately re- | spond to the announcement of the drilling of four new wells, which when | completed _will bring the company’s total to 163 wells.
