NEW YORK, September 13.—Bonds ‘were firm on small turnovers in a quiet two-hour session today. Activity was confined to comparatively few issues. Favorites included St. Paul adjust- ment 5s, St. Louls San Francisco 41%s, Santa Fe general 4s and International ‘Telephone 5s, which averaged about a quarter point higher. Great Northern s _sagged. Share feature bonds felt only slightly the heaviness of the share market. American 1. G. Chemical 5155 and War- ner Bros. Pictures convertible 6s eased half a point or so. United States Governments were un- ehanged to nominally higher on smail | dealings. In the foreign division Japan | 5l,s, German 7s and Italy 7s showed | firmness, while Argentines tended up- ward. CORPORATION REPORTS TRENDS AND PROSPECTS OF LEADING ORGANIZATIONS NEW YORK, September 13.—The following is today's summary of impor- tant corporation news prepared by Standard Statistics Co., Inc, of New York, for the Assoclated Press: News Trend. The several trade reviews Teport further moderate expansion in whole- sale and retail distribution during the t week. Improvement is irregular, gowever, and not_discernible in every branch of trade. Sentiment has become more hopeful with gain in activities and the expectations of further im- provement. A favorable factor in the general situation is the greater firm- ness in wholesale prices. The latest tabulation indicates quotations have be- come more stable, with some raw ma- terials showing betterment. New York City's clearing declined 43.9 per cent, while centers outside New ‘York dropped 24.8 per cent. Corporation news is varied, with dividend omission announcement by Excello Aircraft & Tool, & reduction by Silver King Coalition and a back divi- dend declaration by Wilson & Oo. Pavorable earnings reports were pub- fished by Scott Paper and Service Sta- tions, Ltd. The Industries. Aviation—Sales of aircraft during 1930 are not expected to exceed 3,000 machines, at maximum, and may well fall appreciably below this figure. Manufacturers still have on hand siz- able inventories, which were casried over from last year when plants were operated far in excess of trade’s quirements. As a Tesult, the aeronauti- cal industry is in the throes of dépres- sion and no near term improvement is in p as much time will have to elapse before surplus can be &l Engine manufacturers are more favorably situated because of & substantial replacement demand. More- over, since the major part of business 1s handled by p:?.l tJ:n leue‘l.gln:mx:lmas. ruinous com evide mong plane producers has not spread to the engine field. Coal—Bituminous coal demand has further declined in conjunction with general trade depression. Stocks in consumers’ hands July 1 were the low- est since 1922, but reserves in upper lake docks were higher. Current out- puts are conforming to curtailed de- mand, and have, therefore, reg- istered little of the drastic downward trend recently seen in other basic com- modities. Continued reduced buying, and the ease with which new demands be satisfied in short notice, will vent sustained higher prices in the ar term, at least, it is believed. Sim- flar tendencies govern anthracite divi- sion of industry. However, a more sta- ble, if gradually diminishing demand is -registered because 80 per cent of out- ut is consumed domestically. Inroads Ey substitute fuels and increasing im- ports of low cost coal from Wales and Soviet Russia indicate that higher prices, other than those influenced by strictly s trend, are unlikely. Rafiroad—Representative Coal Ex- porters Assoclation request I. C. C., to reduce fi t rates on export coal by $1 ton to help meet foreign competi- tion in Mediterranean and South American countries. NEW YORK, September 13.—Trans- | mission of natural gas can be profitably carried out, in some instances, as low | as 214 cents per 1,000 cublc feet for 100 | miles, despite the seemingly prohibitive | cost of long-distance pipe lines, G. Present developments, especially in pipe line construction and in increasing | efficiency of modern compressor sta- tions which actually have made pos- sible the transportation of gas long dis- tances, indicate that this figure may be even further lowered, the pamphlet | shows: | “Natural gas is an industry which has climbed the ladder of success at a bewlldering speed, consumption having | b from French government. ‘Ward Baking directors send stock- holders letter urging them to defer action on any offer by Morrow interests. ‘Wextark Radio Stores had deficit of $377,900 in year to June 30.
