KLAGENFURT, Austria, August 19.— ‘The so-called “42-lined” Gutenberg Bible, which for 400 years has been in possession of the St. Blasius Mon- astery at St. Paul, Klagenfurt, has been | delivered to Dr. Otto Vollbehr of New | York City. The Bible was hancled to the pur- chaser at the United States legation in Vienna August 16. The Bible will be passed on to the Congressional Library | at Washington with a collection of first prints, ‘The Gutenberg Bible of the St. Blasius Monastery, one of the four ex- isting copies printed on vellum, has | been the property of Dr. Otto H. F. ;anlb@hr. Berlin merchant and book | collector, for the past six years, but | has been left in the hands of the Bene- | dictine monks for safe keeping. Dr. Vollbehr recently sold the Bible, together with approximately 1,500 vol- umes printed in the Middle Ages, to the Library of Congress for $1,500,000. He went _to Austria early in July to secure the Bible and arrange for bringing it to America. When he left Washington, Dr. Vollbehr planned to have the Bible brought back by the Abbot of the St. Blasius Monastery, who would take part in the ceremony of transferring it to | the United States Government.
