Patents were issued by the United | Rtates Patent Office this week for-de-| vices ranging from a cigarette pocket for women's skirts to a machine for| transforming into power the radiant| energy of the sun. H A patent was issued to Dr. Lee De Forest. inventor of the radio tube, for! a method of producing a positive film | with both sound and picture records thereon. The method consists in ex-| psing the picture area of the positive film to the picture record on the nega- | tive, longitudinally displacing the posi- tive, and negative films relatively to each other, and then exposing the sound | area of the positive to the sound area of the negative. This, according to the description, produces a positive film having sound and picture records, sepa- | rated a predetermined distance. Anthony H. G. Fokker, the aircraft | tnventor, associated with Alfred H. Gass- ner of New York, received patents on two amphibian airplane devices which can be controlled by the pilot so- t! he can land on water or land as pleases.
