FRIENDSHIP GROUP - ASKS SAFETY ACTS Police Are Urged to Be More Strict in Preventing Driv- ing in Loading Zones. Resolutions affecting the safety of pedestrians and street car patrons were adopted by the Friendship Citizens’ As- sociation last night at a meeting in the Janney School. Police of the four- teenth precinct are called upon in the resolution to be more strict in the en- forcement of iraffic regulations on Wis- consin avenue, especially those respect- ing driving through zones marked for loading and unloading of street car pl:d- ecial attention is directs 'gn‘;;e‘énufignnry measures in school es. w?l‘ha association took initial steps for procuring_bus service for the com- munity. Resolutions were adopted urg- ing the Public Utilities Commission to investigate the needs of the section and to order the establishment of bus service. Closing of all open storm sewers in the city to prevent a repetition of the recent near catastrophe when the lives of several small boys were saved through the timely action of one of their num- ber in uncovering a sewer top after they had been imprisoned there, was asked. In connection with this motion, the association voted thanks to the members of the Fire Department who aided in resuscitation of the boys who ‘were gassed in the sewer. Alfred T. Seiler, editor of the Top Notch, community newspaper and offi- cial organ of the association, gave an llustrated lecture on Western life. In the hope of aiding the membership campaign, & special committee was di- rected to provide entertainment features for the June meeting. Rankin H. Rice, president of the as- sociation, presided. BERNARD SHAW ADMITS FAVORITE NIGHTMARE Thoroughly Enjoys Semsation of Being Chased Upstairs—‘Ghost House” Experience Recalled. LONDON (N.AN.A)—George Ber- nard Shaw has confessed to having a favorite dream. It is a dream which most people dread, for in it Mr. Shaw finds himself pursued by somebody to catch him. “And,” he says, “this invariably ends with _my being chased upstairs, and that I thoroughly enjoy.” There is a story, however, to the ef- fect that once when Mr. Shaw was asked by some people interested in hical research to help investigate a ghost at a house near London, he, as the unbeliever, was given the post of honor—the haunted room. Soon after he went to bed Mr. Shaw became jumping out of bed, sword which hung on the wall and strode about the room hurling deflance at the powers of darkness. The noise he made aroused the psychic research- ers, and they burst into the room to find him brandishing the sword above his head. And it was not until then that the great man awoke from his nightmare! (Copyright, 1930, by North American News- r Alliance.) SUMMER JOBS OPEN Many Offers at Employment Bu- reaus Go Begging.
