LOS ANGELES, April 18 —Otto San- huber, who imprisoned himself in| garrets for 10 years in order to be near | Mrs. Walburga Oesterreich, the woman he loved, today again was close to his | alleged enchantress, but both oecupied eells in the county jails. } ‘The pair were indicted jointly yester- day by the grand jury for the murder of the woman's husband, Fred Oester- reich, retired Milwaukee, Wis., garment manufacturer, August 23, 1922. . Authorities said_their arraignment in Superior Court signalized solution of Oesterreich’s slaying which, because of parent lack of motive and absence of eclues, mystified police for more than seven years. 5 Stand Together in Court. At the arraignment Mrs. Oesterreich stood by the side of Sanhuber. No flicker of recognition passed between | them. The man waived time for plead- ing, but the woman said she was un- epared. P ahhuber pleaded not guilty, and not guilty by reason of insanity. His trial was set for April 21, the date set for Mrs. Oesterreich’s plea. Both were re- manded to jail without bail, and two alienists were appointed to examine | Sanhuber. Confesses to Slaying. Sanhuber confessed that he lived like & bat in attics of the Oesterreich homes here and in Milwaukee from 1911, when he first met Mrs. Oesterreich, until @ year after he had slain her hmd. He said he heard Mr. and Mrs. Oesterreich quarreling in Au- . 1922, and crept down and slew S;ss‘wrrelch, Afterward _he crawled back to his hideout and lived in secret with Mrs. Oesterreich’s aid until the slaying was listed as an unsolved crime on police records and active investiga- n ceased. CENTRAL CITY, Ky., April 18—The aasertion that 4,000 miners in four Western Kentucky counties are now on strike, though a strike voted in Decem- ber for the entire field has never been approved by the natiopal officers, Was made Wednesday by W. D. Duncan, acting president of district 23 of the United Mine Workers of America. He said the December strike vote resulted in 9,000 votes for a strike for ition of the union and payment of the 1817 z(e scale, and only 200 votes against Duncan defended the loeal strikes. “The miners believe they can do jus as well striking as working,” he said.
