BETHESDA, Md., March 26.—A new chief of the Bethesda Volunteer Fire Department to succeed Dudley Browne, who has resigned, will be clected &t & meeting in the fire department head- quarters at Bethesda Monday evening, it was learned today. Mr. Brown's resignation, to become effective Monday, was accepted by the county fire board several days ago. He is understood to have submitted his resignation four weeks ago at the request of his wife and father, who felt he was devoting too much time to fire department activities. The board at tthnb time did not accept the resigna- ion. Browne recently suspended several firemen accused of drinking at a fire in the home of J. W. Cummings, 209 East Thornapple street, Chevy Chase, Md. It is understood that the suspen- sion of the firemen had no bearing on Mr. Browne's resignation. ]oscph F. erch's Sons IBAAC BIRCH) 3034 M St NW.
