Completion of the work, expected by early Summer, will make available @ fine road from the Defense Highway &t Bladensburg to Kenilworth at the District Line and a more direct link by several miles between upper and lower sections of Prince Georges County than now ex As it will furnish another outlet to Washington, it also will relieve the con- gestion_at the Prince Georges County | World War Memorial Cross at Bladens- burg on Sundays, during the races at | Bowie and at other times when it is heavy. In addition it will provide an outlet to Washington when the road in the vicinity of the cross and other low sections of Bladensburg is inundated by periodical floods. The contract for completion of the road was awarded last Fall, but because of inability to secure rights-of-way through one piece of property the work had to be deferred. All the rights now either side of the railroad a short dis- tance south of Bladensburg will be left unimproved. It is understood that ulti- mately it is the intention of ‘the State to either construct an overhead bridge or an underpass to avoid the grade crossing at this point. LEONARDTOWN, Md., March 25— A forest fire which burned over 200 acres of swamp and woodland cover- ing an area of 6 miles within a mile of Leonardtown called out the Leonard- town Fire Department yesterday. A brush fire was started on the farm of Louis Russell and got beyond his control and rapidly spread to the woods on the Key estate, and threatened the new home being built and the_ flour mill owned by Rowe Cecil of Valley e THE CITY CLUB 1320 @ ST REET Lee on the opposite road close to Leonar School Boys from Leonard Hall High lent their aid, with 300 other citizens of the town and surrounding country, who finally were able to check the forest fire with backfire. The loss, however, is small, as most of the area burned over is swamp land and known as Klears Swamp. In spite of the fact that the Mac- Intost Run skirts the swamp on the west the flames leaped the wide space and burned on the other side of it. This is the third forest fire within two weeks in the county, the first be- ing at Abells, which entailed a loss of $20,000, the second was at Bushwood on Friday, which burned over 100 acres LEA & PERRINS/ SAUCE is the proper season- ing for all soups and chowders.
