FINANCIA CURB ISSUES DROP ON PROFIT TAKING Utilities and Oils Under Pres- sure—Industrial Group Recedes. BY CLAUDE A. JAGGER, Associated Press Pinancial Writer NEW YORK. February 15.—The curb market was depressed by heavy Week-end liquidation today. Profit tak- ing in the utilities, which appeared y terday, was continued in large volume, and the oils were depressed by further cuts in midcontinent crude prices, Prairie and Ohio oil joining Sinclair and Standard of Indiana in ‘meeting the lower price schedule instituted a aonth ago by Standard of New Jersey. Among the higher-priced utility ®hares, Commonwealth Edison and American Gas & Electric lost about 4 and 5 points. Standard Power & Light and United States Electric Power lost practically all of the gains which re- sulted from announcement of the entrance of the Mellon interests in the . Standard group. Electric Bond & Share and American & Foreign Power Warrants closed about a point lower. In the oils, Vacuum and Humble closed more than 2 points lower, and Gulf lost more than a point. Cities vice, however, held fairly steady. le natural gas stocks also held fairly 1. Arkansas eased a fraction, hut United Gas closed a little higher. Industrials were highly irregular. In the radio group, Hazeltine gained more than 2 points. Crocker Wheeler was firm for a time, but closed off nearly 2 point. Ford of Canada lost 4, and Fox Theaters A slipped back to 613, in sympathy with heaviness in Fox Film on the big board. National Investors was again a strong 8pot in the investmnet trusts, rising 11 points. Blue Ridge was firm, get. ing above 10 Lehman Corpos tion, however, slipped back more than a d Trans-America eased a frac- 3 arine Midland, bank stock holding company, sold up substantially, but lost some of its gain later. Wall Street Briefs By the Associated Press. ‘The gold movement at New York so | far this month, while moderate, has been wholly in favor of this country, exports nominal. Indications are that February imports will more than dou- ble the amount of gold received here in January. An analysis of the 1929 reports of copper company operations made pub- lic to date show that déspite the un- | favorable conditions that appeared n | last quarter, the year was one of | st for some time. One company, | | the Calumet and Hecla, reported a gain of 32 per cent. Approval of an increase in authorized common stock of the Middle West Utili- | ties Co., from 18.200.000 to 25,000,000 | shares will be asked of stockholders at | the annual meeting March 25. Baltimore Markets Special Dispatch to The Star. BALTIMORE, Md., February 15— ‘The live poultry market holds generally steady, with only a few lines showing an increase over last week. Undes lighter receipts and a very good deman for medium-sized stock, the market for turkeys is firmer and higher, at 36 and 37 cents a pound for young hens 8 pounds and over and 32 to 34 for gob- blers, but old toms, as well as crooked breasts, are not so desirable at 25 and 26 for the former and 22 and 23 for the latter. A good demand prevails for smooth, fat, young chickens, especially small broilers 2 pound and under, which class of stock is scarce and wanted often at a premium over quotations. Young brollers are bringing 32, while smooth, fat, young chickens sell mostly 30 to 32, but young roosters will not bring over 28 to 30" and Leghorns 24 and 25, but all poor, thin stock, as well as stags, moves slow at 19 and 20. Market for old hens rules easy under moderate receipts, but ample for the demand, which 1s only fair for small to medium fat stock. Old hens, 31 ds and over, sell mostly at 25 and 26, but Leg- horns will not bring over 23 to 24, while poor, thin fowl, as well as old roosters, are hard to move at 17 and 18. Capons in moderate recel and poor ducks are slow sale at 17 and 18. The market for guinea fowl and igeons holds steady at 45 to 70 each ;or the former, and 25 a pair for the latter. Receipts of nearby eggs continue light, and the market holds firm and a shade higher, at 42 and 43 cents a dozen _for nearby firsts, 35 for pullets and 25 to 30 for culls and dirty stock. Strictly fresh hennery whites will bring a premium over quotations. Potato Prices. ite the embargo on potatos by Lhmmnlylnnh Railroad, supplies have increased the past week, and with demand only moderate the market is still unsettled and easler at 2.75 to 2.85 per 100 pounds for No. 1 stock. but will not bring over 225 to 2.50. ‘The market for sweet potatos and yams holds steady at 1.75 to 2.75 per barrel for the former and 1.75 to 250 for the latter. Native and nearby garden truck in moderate receipt and under a slow movement market is easy on most lines at the following quota- tions: Cabbage, 75 to 1.00 basket; car- to 1.75 barrel; onions, 1.50 to 1.75 per hundred inds; oyster plants, 3.00 to 5.00 h ; parsnips, 40 to 50 basket; spinach, 25 to 50 bushel, and turnips, 25 to 35 hamper. Live Stock Prices. With the exception of calves, which are easy, the general live cattle market holds steady under a good demand and light .
