LONDON, February 15.—The bacillus g&mfia, the germ supposed to cause ml.m 'S &rlaeueb ,” has beu; nve;kd li an impost y & group of workers a! the London Hospital. In the cwrent issue of the Lancet, British medical jocurnal, they affirm that the disease, which recently has at- tracted widespread attention because of outbreaks in the United States and Ger- many, is almost certainly due to an altogether different type of microbe. !'This microbe belongs to a group of filter-passing viruses that are so small | their existence can be proved only |t can be shown that the blood of in- fected -mm;lll wfldl infect other animals after bein| tered. The u:g was applied in the London Hospital, where blood from patients suf- fering from psittacosis was filtered and then injected into lovebirds. The birds became sick from the disease, and in turn their blood, even after filtration, proved fatal to other birds. Guinea pigs and pigeons did not con- tract psittacosis under similar circum- | stances, but two hens that became sick | nine days after inoculation are still very ill. A possible relation between psitta- cosis and fow! plague is under consider- ation. THE SUNDAY BOY SCOUT FOUNDER ON WAY TO VISIT U.
