U. held its February meeting at the Sixth Presbyterian Church, Sixteenth and Kennedy streets northwest. Mrs. E. E. Norwood, the president, presided. The hostess was Mrs. M. F. Mrs. Clayton ad a chart of the District of Columbia showing the location of all saloons be- fore prohibition. The children were asked which they thought was the best, saloons or prohibition, and voted unan=- imously for prohibition. Mrs. Hoover honored the Council of the Girl Scouts of Washington, D. C,, by having its monthly meeting take in the State dining room of the White House. Mrs. Hoover was presented by Mrs. Garrett S. Miller, jr., commissioner of the Girl Scouts of Washington, D. C., with a large bouquet of roses, voicing at the same time the affection of the council for her and their appreciation of the notable work she has done for many years in various offices. Mrs. Hoover, who still takes an active part in being captain of Troop 8, spoke of her pleasure in the vitality and ex- tension of Girl Scout work here, The meeting was presided over by Mrs. Garrett S. Miller, jr., commissioner of the Girl Scouts of Washington, D. C. All chairmen were called upon for re- ports, among which was one from Miss Dorothy Greene giving a comprehensivg ;'eport of the activities of the organiza= ion. Notably interesting were those upon the Girl Scout camp which has been presented by the Government in the national forest in the Shenandoah Mountains, south of Harrisonburg. Mrs. Frederick Brooke spoke of the the funds for this camp is to be available this Summer. Another report embodied a recent in- cident where a 10-year-old girl put in practice Scout teachings and saved her mother’s life at the risk of her own, The girl was Mary Ellen Wager of Troop 46, who smothered the flames shooting from her mother's hair, which had caught fire from a gas stove.
